This is the English Version =)

7th Lunar month (Zhong Yuan Jie) The 7th lunar month had just passed but how much do you know about this special festival celebrated mainly by the Taoist and Buddhist? Let us tell you more about it ^^

Actually it started off as a festival celebrated by the Taoist and Buddhist. But these two religions have different definition towards this festival. Taoism focus on respect towards elders and ancestors while Buddhism focus on Filial piety.

There is a story to it.

It all starts off with a guy call Mu Lian (目连) His story …. The story is actually taken from a Buddhist religion book known as 《大藏经》( da zang jing ). In the book it states that this guy Mu Lian went through all the pains and trouble just to travel to hell to meet his mother (刘氏四娘 ) for a moment. ( *sob* I know very touching ) when he sees that other ghosts bully his mother, he uses a plate to serve the food for his mother, but alas the ghost snatch it. He felt sad and sorry thus went to seek help from Buddha. Buddha is touched by his filial piety and decided to give him some instructions and he must follow them. So on the 15th of the Lunar 7 month, he followed the instructions and gave his offerings to his mother. At last his poor mother get to enjoy the offerings. Thus in remembrance of this filial guy.

The Buddhist and Taoist celebrate this day yearly.

Fun fact: In the olden times the first day of the 7th month is known as “ shang Yuan 上元” the 15th of the month is known as “ zhong Yuan ” And the 30th of the month is known as “ Xia Yuan ”. Surprising isn’t it?

After reading this touching story ( * crying* ) please don’t forget to tag hor ;] your comments are greatly appreciated ^^
